VOLVO WINTER MODE TRANSMISSION SETTING

[ Edited ]

MY SISTER HAS AN OLDER VOLVO (1995 850GLT 2.4 LITER NON-TURBO) THAT WAS DRIVEN DOWN FROM THE COLD NORTH TO STEAMY FLORIDA  WITHIN THE LAST MONTH OR SO AND NOW HAS THE "WINTER MODE" LIGHT KEEP COMING ON AND ACTS LIKE ITS LUGGING DOWN IN POWER, ALMOST LIKE IT IS STUCK IN A LOWER GRADE TRANSMISSION SETTING.  ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHAT COULD POSSIBLY TURN OFF THIS FEATURE, AND WHAT DAMAGE IS BEING DONE THAT SHE'LL END UP PAYING TO FIX?    THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP!   Debi

If I recall there is a selector button either on the gear selector or near the gear selector with a "W" on it. Try depressing the button to see if the light goes off. If not, there may be a faulty switch or solenoid keeping it in "winter" mode.
